I’m kind of obsessed with this photo.

A couple of clients of mine (winter Texans) live in an RV park in Mission that has an agility course. As soon as we figure out how exactly to get there, Mackenzie and I are definitely going to go. With the few opportunities she’s had to do it, she’s loved agility so far.

I met with an Employment Specialist tonight. Just the addition of the word “with” makes that sentence sound so much more meaningful than it actually is. In actuality, I helped an Employment Specialist find something to help her dog’s breath not smell, and then I helped her carry a 50lb bag of dog food to her car. The whole time we just happened to be talking and she asked how I became a dog trainer. I said I had been doing it my whole life. She said “That’s what I try and tell people all the time. The job comes from within. For some people, there is no job for them. You may never find the exact right job for you. You might have to figure it out for yourself and make it happen.”
Last night talking to Tori already got me all into the subject, but then meeting this woman today got me to thinking about it even more. At some point in our conversation she mentioned crate training and I talked about taking Mackenzie to college and how crate training saved my life, and taking her on plane rides between here and NY etc. Somewhere in there the woman’s face dropped and she asked where I went to college. Once I finally got to throw in the word Cornell, she got that same goddamn look everyone gets when they glance from my shirt, up to my face.
“So… did you finish? I mean, did you actually graduate?”
“Yea. I graduated in 2006. I have a degree in Communication. And here I am.”
If I knew what it is that I wanted to do, I would have a much better answer to all these questions. But I don’t know. I want to do what I’m doing, but on a much larger scale. I think I know that much. Other than that, No. I don’t know what it is that I want to do. Just like another woman asked me which dog food would make her dog’s shit not stink. The day I find the answer to either of these questions, I’ll let you know.

This morning Mom, Mackenzie, and I went to the annual STC Mutt Show.
We won First Place in everything.
The categories were:
-an obstacle course (which she ran once as the demo-dog, and then again to be judged)
-best trick (she did a short little sequence including leg weaves!)
-best kisser
-best appearance
-most obedient
The grand prize for all of this? A free 8wk training class at PetSmart.
I nearly cried.
Instead I gave it away to this very nice girl Mom and I made friends with, named Jessica. She’s got a dachshund too and I figured it would be nicer to give it to her instead of some stranger. So essentially for all of our effort we got NOTHING. Either way, it was a really fun event and Mackenzie did fabulously with all the other dogs and we had fun.

Beethoven nearly died on Wednesday. He had a prolapsed rectum (if you don’t know what that means, you don’t want to find out).
Tomorrow Mackenzie, April, Mom and I are hopefully going to the South Texas College Annual Mutt Show. Mackenzie and I will be competing in “Best Trick” and April will be competing in “Best Licker”. It should be fabulous. Finally my Mom can see me at my best.
